GYROS terms and conditions for theDialogue service

Service description – A low cost bi-lingual communication service primarily aimed at the voluntary sector to provide two-way communication in routine service provision situations such as workshop, group, drop-in, advice and consultation sessions.

Service availability – Normal working hours are Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and the minimum booking period is one hour. The service may also be available outside these hours and at weekends subject to staff availability. Normally three working days notice are required for a booking but shorter notice bookings for emergencies are possible subject to staff availability. A brief description or agenda for the work situation is required for each booking and GYROS reserve the right to decline a booking if the situation is regarded as inappropriate. Where help with form-filling is part of the booking a copy of the form(s) must be provided in advance to enable the dialogue worker to be briefed.

Supervision – Dialogue workers are only allowed to work in situations where they are accompanied by at least one appropriate worker from the agency/organisation which has made the booking.

Staff and training – GYROS will use its wide experience and existing contacts to identify and recruit Dialogue staff who will all be paid. None of the work will be carried out on a voluntary basis. Training will be given in the aims and limitations of the service to try and ensure that staff are not drawn into situations which are inappropriate or where professional interpreters should be used. Staff will be briefed to understand the nature and scope of the voluntary sector and its relationship with statutory agencies. All staff are CRB checked at the basic level.

Cost - £15.00 per hour for each Dialogue worker provided during normal working hours within the urban areas of Great Yarmouth and Gorleston. Cost of service outside these hours and boundaries by negotiation.

Limitations – The service is not available to statutory and other organisations which have contracts with interpreting agencies such as INTRAN or Language Line, nor is it intended to provide technical or specialist interpreting. However Dialogue workers are available to work in group situations run by voluntary sector organisations where general advice and/or signposting is being provided by such organisations provided that it does not include one to one work.
